Former Accra Hearts of Oak head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has insisted he was never surprised by the club’s decision to part ways with him despite guiding the Phobians to a third-place finish in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
Dramani, who joined Hearts of Oak on a two-year deal ahead of the campaign, lasted only eleven months, after the club opted to pursue a different direction.
Speaking to GSP as quoted by GhanaSportsCentral.com, the experienced tactician revealed that he accepted the decision calmly and understood the club’s position although he had plans for the new season.
“I was never worried about the sacking. Never, never was I shocked. To be honest with you, I did not even sit down to brood over it as to why Hearts of Oak took that decision,” Dramani said, as quoted by GhanaSportsCentral.com.
“This is because Hearts is a big club and every coach is definitely a fan of football. In this job, if you don’t add the fan aspect, you can never be interested and when you’re not interested in anything, you can never be committed to it. When you’re never committed to anything, you can never be passionate and so you will not have the drive to do things professionally.”
Dramani explained that the decision by the Hearts of Oak board of directors stemmed from what he described as a “misalignment” between both parties, insisting such situations are common in football.
“Hearts of Oak board thought about the decision to sack me thoroughly and I think it’s in the best interest of the club which is always good. It happens everywhere. Sometimes, there is always a misalignment so when such issues arise these are the best things to do.
“The two parties need to understand each other so you can part ways amicably and that is where if you watch it well you can clearly see that the off the pitch issues are mostly misalignment and it is normal.”
The former coach maintained that management ultimately reserves the right to make decisions concerning the club’s future.
“You can do everything but it is the club that takes the decision. You have to give them the benefit of the doubt. I don’t think it’s a bad decision, you just have to accept the decision,” he added.
Dramani also acknowledged the appreciation shown by the club in their official statement announcing his departure, while reflecting on the lessons he gained during his stay at the club.
“I think that if you read the statement they released, their main point was they appreciate whatever we brought in the team. The direction was okay but they are the ones who see things also from their side of the view which is okay but sometimes if you flip it you must watch the other side.
“What must you do better because you want to also grow so sometimes you will not only look at it from one side. In as much as we want things to be in our favour, I have learned a lot of things from that environment and I have gained strength from the environment.
“I know there were also challenges [at Hearts of Oak] but even in our homes there are challenges, lessons and strengths. The strength is that at least it’s your home so you add the lessons in order to progress further in life.”
According to reports in the local media, Dramani and his technical team have been hugely linked with a move to newly promoted Port City FC ahead of the upcoming season.
