AFCON 2021: Comoros stand-out performance against Ghana hands them multiple records in their first appearance

Tuesday evening in Cameroon was the moment that Comoros surprised the whole World with a standout performance against the Black Stars of Ghana.

The Southern African’s made multiple records and history on the day, scored their first-ever goal, and grabbed their first-ever AFCON win.

The football world never expected the Coelacanths to eliminate Ghana who has had a great performance some years back, making their name great after 2010 surprising performance at the World Cup.

The 3-2 triumph over the four-times champions have earned the debutant a place in round 16, where they lock horns with the host Cameroon.

The underdogs qualified after picking the fourth slot as one of the best third-placed teams to reach the knockout face.

Coelacanth’s record at the tournament has become the most talked-about though defending champions Algeria claimed their second defeat of the tournament as they were dethroned by the Elephants of La Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday evening.

Their 3-2 victory over the Black Stars has boosted the fans of South Africa to mock Ghana since the Black Stars had belabored the Bafana Bafana a goal to nil at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium to reach the playoffs of the CAF World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars never taught of being dumped out or crashed out by the underdogs. Ghana aimed to pick up a triumph to see through the next stage of the competition but they were held in a hard-fought to the debutant.
