However, the game took place with minute silence to honour the eight spectators who were crashed into death after the horiffic scenes outside last night’s match between Cameroon and Comoros in Olembe.

The Teranga Lions had a perfect start at the early minutes, had a great chance but Sadio Mané hits the right post with a right footed shot from the centre of the box during the first minute.

Sadio Mane and his guys were finding it difficult to score a second goal of the tournament. They qualified with just one goal courtesy of Sadio Mane in the group stages.

At the 20th minute, Patrick Andrade of Cape Verde was sent off after a persistent foul on Pape Gueye.

The Blue Sharks once lost another player, Vózinha after he was sent off by the Algerian referee.

Despite the red cards against Cape Verde, Senegal was held to a hard competition before Sadio Mane broke the deadlock with his second goal of the tournament. Mane was later replaced by Bamba Dieng due to an injury at the 70th minute.

Cape Verde were somehow hanging on, and they created an opening for the equaliser but their effort wasn’t enough to keep the name in the game.

Senegal fought for the second goal through Bamba who replaced Sadio Mane during the additional five minutes in the second half.

Senegal will compete against the winner of the next encounter between Malawi and Morocco.
