Hasaacas Ladies suffered a defeat in their opening WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League against Rivers Angels FC in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The Ghana Women’s Premier League champions got off to a disappointing start in the maiden edition of the competition with a 2-0 loss to their Nigerian counterparts.

Angels took the lead through their first attempt on goal as Abiodun Deborah shot found it way into the opposing net after 17 minutes.

Wasteful Hasaacas could have gone ahead earlier on but Doris Boaduwaa on two occasions couldn’t put the ball behind the goal keeper.

Right after the break, Evenagu Maryann extended the lead by going around goalkeeper, Grace Benwah before firing into the yawning net.

The Hasmal girls made all effort of getting a consolation and probably a comeback but their efforts proved fertile.

Hasaacas Ladies will now need a win in their second game against AS Polics de Niamey on Thursday, July 29, in order to secure a semi-final place.
