Following his input against Cameroon after coming off the bench, many pundits of the game have called on Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah to start former captain Asamoah Gyan against Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, but the trainer has reiterated that Gyan, like any other player, must earn their place in his starting XI on merit.

Gyan made his first appearance in the current AFCON tournament Egypt when he came off the bench on the 78th minute for Kwadwo Asamoah. Gyan’s introduction into the game along with youngster Kwabena Owusu gave Ghana more potency upfront and many Ghanaians believe it times Kwasi Appiah starts the former skipper in matches especially against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau tomorrow, but the boss wants to see more from the Ghana’s all-time tops scorer in training.

“I don’t think we’re going to have a lot of changes; I believe Gyan, you know, no one has believed in Gyan more than me”, Appiah told reporters at the pre-match conference ahead of tomorrow’s match.

Coach Appiah believes that players need to justify themselves well during training sessions to convince him as why they must start matches.

“The most important thing is we’ve been having training sessions and every would assess how the training goes you choose your players for a particular game, so it depends on how he (Gyan) performs at training then we can know how to say let him start or let him come on (from the bench)’’, he insisted.

Asamoah Gyan has scored 8 goals for Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations, and he has scored in 9 different tournaments he’s played in for Ghana, and a goal in this year’s AFCON will see him setting new record for himself as the first player to score in 10 different tournaments for the Black Stars.
