CAF CC: Substitute Naby Keita’s late penalty goal secures Kotoko late win over San Pedro

Kumasi Asante Kotoko crambled to a gasping 1-0 win over Ivorian side FC San Pedro in the first leg tie of the CAF Confederation Cup playoff on Monday as Naby Keita climbed off the bench to convert a late penalty for the Kumasi based side.

The match, which was scheduled for Sunday October 27, was called off due to heavy rain that flooded the pitch after the first half ended barren. In accordance with the competition regulations, the match was continued on Monday from minute 45 instead of playing 90 minutes in its entirety.

Asante Kotoko playing at home, were under intense pressure to score goals and avoid conceding so as to make the reverse fixture less to be worried about, but the Orange lads proved too competition to be ridden over as they held the Porcupine Warriors to 0-0 draw after 90 minutes.

South African referee Eugene Nkosinathi Mdlule in charge added 6 minutes after the regulation time and Kotoko made the most out of the additional minutes as a late penalty was awarded to the home side after a tackle on Sogne Yacouba in the 18-yard box was adjudged an infringement.

Substiute Naby Keita converted the penalty nicely to hand Kotoko 1-0 win going into the second leg in Abidjan.
