The country’s football governing body has thrown its support behind the underfire striker following growing controversy surrounding his remarkable six-goal performance on the final day of the Ghana Premier League season
Ghana Football Association have come out to back underfire Bibiani Gold Stars striker Attah Kumi for scoring six goals on final day against Eleven Wonders in Bibiani on Sunday.
Kumi, ahead of the last round of matches, had only netted two goals in his last nine matches and was trailing Bechem United legend Augustine Okrah who was on 15 goals.
However, the 27-year-old struck six goals in only 55 minutes. He struck in the 35th, 38th, 47th, 52nd, 65th and stoppage-time minutes to finish the campaign with 19 goals and snatch the Goal King award ahead of Okrah.
The nature of the goals and the heavy scoreline have sparked debates among football fans and observers, with some questioning the competitiveness of the match. Despite the criticism, the Ghana FA has publicly celebrated the striker’s achievement.
In its official matchday report wrapping up the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, the football governing body described Kumi’s display as one of the greatest individual performances in the history of the competition.
“Samuel Attah Kumi delivered one of the greatest individual performances in Ghana Premier League history, scoring six goals as Bibiani Gold Stars dismantled relegated Eleven Wonders 8-3 at Duns Park,” an official Ghana FA report stated.
“Trailing Bechem United’s Augustine Okrah by two goals in the Golden Boot race heading into the final day, Kumi produced a stunning turnaround, netting in the 35th, 38th, 47th, 52nd, 65th and stoppage-time minutes to finish the season as the league’s top scorer with 19 goals,” the statement added.
Kumi’s closest competitor Augustine Okrah scored a brace against Berekum Chelsea in the Bono and Ahafo derby but that was not enough to land him the award.
