Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Michael Akuffo has expressed strong confidence in the Porcupine Warriors’ chances ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup first-leg encounter with Wydad Athletic Club (WAC) of Morocco.

Akuffo conveyed his belief in the squad stating that the Reds are capable of beating WAC by three or more goals in the first leg tie.

Speaking to Ghanasportspage, he emphasized that discipline and determination will be key to Kotoko’s success on Sunday.

“The game is going to be won by discipline; it’s going to be won by determination, and I know Kotoko will carry the day,” he said.

Akuffo reflected on the team’s previous experience against Kwara United, describing it as a valuable learning curve for the relatively young Kotoko squad.

“The Kwara game was a learning process because it was the first time playing in African competition for most of the players. In the first leg, we scored but also conceded, but that experience prepared them for the second leg where they didn’t concede,” he noted.

The former Kotoko captain believes securing a comfortable first-leg win to boost their qualification chance is within reach.

“It is not beyond us to beat WAC by three or four goals. I’m praying it will be our day, and we will score not less than three goals because the second leg won’t be easy. The first leg will have a strong influence on the second leg,” Akuffo added.

Asante Kotoko will face Wydad AC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 19, 2025, after CAF declined approval for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to host the tie.
