Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has revealed that playing all matches away from home was his biggest challenge as manager but praised his players for their resilience and mentality in overcoming the challenge.

With Sudan unable to host games on home soil due to logistical and security concerns, Appiah had to find a way to keep his squad motivated despite the disadvantage of missing home support.

“Playing all our matches away from home was very challenging,” Appiah told CAF media. I told the players to view every venue we played at as our home, reminding them that the opposition also brought just 11 players onto the pitch, the same as us.”

The former Ghana coach emphasized the importance of teamwork and focus, urging his players to rely on each other instead of expecting the usual home advantage.

“I encouraged them to focus on the task at hand and to support each other because, given the circumstances, we couldn’t rely on home support. That mentality made all the difference,” he added.

Under Appiah’s leadership, Sudan has shown steady progress in international competitions, with the Ghanaian tactician guiding the to qualifying for the 2025 AFCON after finishing second in their group.
