Otto Addo ‘pleads’ with Ghana players to save his job against Sudan – reports

The Black Stars gaffer could be shown the exit should they fail to qualify to 2025 Africa Cup of Nations

Ghana coach Otto Addo has reportedly explained to the players this morning why they can’t lose 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan in Libya on Tuesday.

The Black Stars, after three games, are winless in the qualifiers, losing at home to Angola and sharing the spoils with Niger in Casablanca, Morocco and Sudan in Accra. As it stands now, Ghana are trailing Group F leaders Angola seven points as well as Sudan two points and a defeat against the latter will mean it will be five points.

According to reports in the local media, Addo has highlighted that everyone’s future in the current team lies on this game since a defeat can lead to a massive shake up from technical team to players and almost everyone around the team.

Should Ghana lose to Sudan and fail to qualify to the AFCON, for the first time since 2004, Otto Addo is likely to be sacked and many of the players will not get a chance to the national team again because the new coach would probably have different ideas and tactics which he will need other players to succeed.

Addo has further reaffirmed his faith in new captain Kudus Mohammed and has told the West Ham United star that Ghanaians severely criticise him because they believe in his talent.

Ghana last failed to qualify to the AFCON in 2004 when it was hosted by Tunisia and also failed to make it to the competition when it was last hosted by Morocco in 1988.
