The Black Stars were held to a goalless draw by Madagascar on sunday in antananarivo.

Coach Chris Hughton’s side were looking to secure soft qualification to the next AFCON before their final game, yet the Barea stayed loyal to their task and managed to delay Ghana’s to the AFCON 2023.

Ghana now need to win their last game against Central African Republic to secure a spot in Ivory Coast after failing to snatch victory from today’s game.

The West African giants are looking to feature in a ninth consecutive Africa Cup of Nations, a run stretching back to 2004, when they failed to qualify for the continental showpiece.

Madagascar have seen their dreams of a first AFCON appearance since 2019 come to an early end as they sit rooted to the bottom of Group E, five points behind third-placed Angola.

Elsewhere, Angola beat Central African Republic 2-1 on Saturday in the same group at the Stade de la Réunification in Cameroon.

The victory boosted Palancas Negras’ ambitions of qualifying for the Afcon finals as they are now placed second in the Group E standings and they will next face Madagascar away in September this year.

Central African Republic are third with 7 points.
