Two Ghanaian giants, Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak may not compete in Africa next season if they are not able to win the BetPawa Premier League. The league now remains Kotoko and Hearts of Oak’s last hope of silverware this term.

The two top clubs are in fight to win the league title following their elimination from the MTN FA Cup. They currently find themselves fourth and fifth on the league table with same points (39).

With nine games to go before the season wraps up, Aduana Stars are leading the table with three points gap.

The Dormaa-based club were also eliminated from the MTN FA Cup on Sunday after losing 3-2 on penalties to King Faisal following a 2-2 draw at the Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.

It was a disappointing Sunday evening for Aduana Stars as they were sent crashing out of the competition.

The exit has brought “clarity” to their season and the Ogya Boys must now focus on their Premier League title charge to qualify for the Champions League ahead of Hearts and Kotoko.

Ghana currently has two slots in the CAF Inter-club competition due to the inability of Ghanaian clubs to perform well in the competition.

Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko have dominated the two competitions that is the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup in the past but have failed to make any meaningful impact in the last decade.

By default, the winner of the FA Cup gets a ticket to represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup while the GPL winner will be representing the nation in the CAF Champions League.

The MTN FA Cup is now down to its final four competitors after another dramatic weekend of action. King Faisal, Skyy FC, Dreams FC and Nsoatreman FC are the team’s to fight for the final place. One of these teams will have the chance to represent Ghana in Africa after the season. This means Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have to push for the league title to secure a spot in Africa in the next campaign.
