The youngster provided his first assist of the season for Wolves but it was not enough to save them from an away defeat
English-born young midfielder with Ghanaian descent, Jerome Abbey, saw full throttle when Wolverhampton Wanderers u18 suffered a 3-1 away defeat to Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.
The 16-year-old was handed a starting role by coach Richard Walker to pair with Ollie Stafford in midfield to provide shield for the defenders. After an end to end action in the first half, Joseph Gabriel opened the scoring for Manchester United following an assist by Daniel Armer on 25th minute.
Darren Fletcher’s boys doubled their lead two minutes later through Noah Ahafo as he delivered a left footed shot from the left side of the box to the bottom corner.
After the break, Manchester changed their game plan to manage their lead and that came along with some consequences as Wolves grew in confidence.
Jerome assisted Mason Stevens to pull one back for Wolves by the 80th minute. However, while the visitors were pushing men forward to find the equaliser, Ollie Stafford conceded a penalty in additional time. Joseph Gabriel stepped up and carefully placed the ball beyond the reach of the goalkeeper to seal the day.
Jerome, who named in Wolves senior squad for a Premier League game in January, has now played 921 minutes this season for the youth side and boasts of one goal and assist.

Interestingly, he comes from a home of footballers as his elder brothers Jez Abbey and Jed Abbey all came through the youth side of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
