Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan has thrown his full support behind the African Schools Championship, describing it as a crucial platform for nurturing the next generation of football talent on the continent.

Speaking to the media during the official draw for the tournament, Gyan emphasized the long-term benefits of the initiative not only for young players but for national teams across Africa.

“It’s a great opportunity for this generation to benefit from it. The other national teams are going to benefit from it. For me personally, I support grassroots football. So, being an ambassador, we are going to do everything to make sure we produce the stars,” Gyan said.

The former Black Stars captain, now an ambassador for the championship, believes the tournament is a game-changer for African football, offering early exposure, structured competition, and scouting opportunities for talented school-aged players.

Meanwhile, the boys draw saw Ghana paired in Group A alongside Uganda, South Africa, and Algeria.

The girls, on the other hand, were paired with Morocco, Benin and Malawi.

The tournament will come off at the University of Ghana Stadium with first game schedule for April 22, 2025.
