‘Kudus Mohammed could face six match ban,’ says former Premier League referee Mike Dean

The former Premier League top referee has suggested that the Ghanaian could return to action in December should the FA decides to extend his suspension

West Ham United forward Kudus Mohammed could be suspended for six matches following his red card against Tottenham in the 4-1 defeat in the East London derby on Saturday according to former Premier League referee Mike Dean.

Kudus, who scored the opening goal of the game, was later sent off in the second half after he clashed with Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven. The altercation escalated when Kudus kicked the ball at Van de Ven, prompting the Dutchman to confront him. Kudus retaliated by pushing Van de Ven in the face, causing him to fall theatrically.

The Ghanaian was later pushed by a Tottenham player and his head collided with Richardlison, leaving the Brazilian on the floor. Later, Kudus could be seen pushing his hands into the face of Tottenham midfielder Pape Mate Sarr, and although the incident was initially missed by the on-field referee Andrew Madley, VAR later reviewed everything and his initial yellow card was overturned into straight red card.

“When you look at the footage, he could have been sent off for the first incident alone,” Dean said after the game.

“But because he hit two different players in the face, I think the FA will act on both [and the suspension extended],” Dean explained.

Should Kudus’ initial three matches suspension is extended, the he will not only miss the games against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Everton but he could also miss crucial fixtures against Newcastle, Arsenal, and Leicester, leaving him sidelined until West Ham’s home match against Wolverhampton on December 9th.

However, with international break coming up in November, Kudus could be seen in action when Ghana face Angola in Luanda in the penultimate game in 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers before he plays the last game at home in Accra against Niger with the hope that the Black Stars will win both games while Sudan lose all their games in order for Ghana to qualify for the competition.
