I ‘died’ after Sudan defeated Ghana – Otto Addo reveals

The beleaguered coach has revealed that he was not of himself after Sudan shocked the Black Stars in Libya on Tuesday

Ghana coach Otto Addo has admitted he felt dead following the Black Stars 2-0 defeat to Sudan in 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Group F qualifiers on Tuesday in Benina, Libya.

Ahead of the game, Ghana needed a win at all cost to breathe life back into a terrible start to the qualifiers after they had only picked two points from three games. However, things moved from bad to worse as goals from Mohamed Mamoun Eisa and Mohamed Abdel-Rahman did the damage to further push the Black Stars away from making it to the tournament which will be staged in Morocco.

“To be honest, I felt dead the last two days [after the defeat to Sudan],” Addo said in an interview with Ghana FA media.

“But now I’ve received a lot of positive feedback and support from family and friends. This is the time when I need them, and I believe all the players and the entire team need it as well. This support has brought me back on track,” Addo added.

Now, Ghana need to win their last two games against Angola in Luanda and Niger at home in Accra and then hope Sudan lose their remaining games against Angola and Niger before they can qualify to play in the next AFCON.

A section of Ghanaians have insisted that Otoo Addo must be sacked since this is the first time in over 20 years that the country will be missing out of the tournament. Meanwhile, others believe he needs to be maintained in order to rebuild the squad and prepare for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
