“Stop hyping players and giving them false hopes; Kudus Mohammed is not our poster boy” – Nana Oduro Sarfo, GFA Exco Member

Ghana Football Association Executive Council member, Nana Oduro Sarfo has claimed that Kudus Mohammed is not yet the poster boy of the senior national soccer team, the Black Stars.

In an interview with Metro Tv’s Agorohene Nana Yaw Opoku in Ivory Coast, the veteran football administrator did not really want to describe the West Ham United midfielder as the face and pillar of the four-time African champions.

Nana Oduro Sarfo, however, advised the nation to stop hyping players and giving them false hopes.

“I will not say Kudus is the most or the poster boy in the national team because when you are scoring and people don’t defend we will not get victory or draw. Djiku for instance is playing very well. Semenyo is also playing well because he is doing a lot of rounds, pulling people away for Kudus to play the shots into goal. Kudus is playing his part and I think he is going to be the poster boy but not now,” he stated.

In addition, the Exco member said, “We always hype players and always give players false hopes. The first time I saw him was when Ghana U-20 were playing against Senegal in Cape Coast. I watched their training, I approached him and I told him he is going to be a great player in future. I told him he will score in that game and then he scored. We are now seeing a great player now. We should let this have a step, let’s climb it like what Abedi Pele, Stephen Appiah and Dede Ayew did.

“We should not be singling him out for now. It is too early to do that. When we keep on doing that the team will suffer in his absence unlike Egypt who played well when Salah was out. They brought in someone who was able to do the job.”

Mohammed Kudus scored a brace in his first AFCON on Thursday but individual mistakes from the team gave the three points away resulting in a 2-2 draw against the Pharaohs.

Having missed Ghana’s opening game against Cape Verde, Kudus carried the team on his shoulders with some brilliant individual moves and sensational team play for Ghana.
