EXCLUSIVE: Die Hard Supporters Union President Apirigu Chakapaama finally breaks silence on their $400 saga in Ivory Coast – AFCON 2023

Abraham Nkansah, popularly known as Apirigu Chakapaama, who serves as the President of Die Hard Supporters Union on Wednesday brushed off rumours that the Ghanaian supporters in Ivory Coast have been paid $400 each for threatening to return home due to unmet expectations.

It was reported after Ghana’s shocking defeat to Cape Verde that the passionate supporters, who were transported to Ivory Coast by the Government of Ghana to cheer the Black Stars at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023) expressed their disappointment at the lack of coordination and support from the organizing bodies.

Dismissing the rumour, the leader of the vibrant Die Hard Supporters Union asserted that they money was not given to them for threatening to return home.

“There’s no truth about these rumours. None of us has threatened to return home. The 400 dollars was given to us a day after our arrival but not because of what people are saying. Before our departure, they gave us 50 cedis each as feeding fee at the boarder and it was okay for us. But for the 400 dollars, it was given to us a day after our arrival but not because of threatening to return home,” Apirigu Chakapaama told Ghana’s leading news portal, Ghanasportspage.com.

Asked if all the supporters received $400, he responded, “We are about 1000 supporters here in Cote d’Ivoire and we are not at the same place. We have been divided into five groups. I heard they are still sharing the money but I can confirm that ours has been given to us. All these rumours are not true,” he said.
