Hearts of Oak have been eliminated from the CAF Confederations Cup competition after losing 3-1 to ASR Bamako on aggregate in the second preliminary round.

The Ghanaian giants were held to a 0-0 draw in the first half as the game proved to be a frustrating fixture for them. They were unable to make the breakthrough despite dominating possession.

The Ghana FA Cup holders were aiming to overturn the first leg defeat in today’s fixture but the visitors denied them the opportunity.

Ahead of the game, coach David Ocloo made six changes to his line-up that suffered defeat in the first leg but they still struggled to turn things around.

The first half was a cagey affair with chances at a premium for both sides. Bamako offered very little going forward, while Isaac Mensah also missed two great chances for the hosts.

However, Hearts of Oak finally broke the deadlock on the 89th minute courtesy of Caleb Amankwa but the goal was not enough for them to progress as the Scorpions picked up the ticket to the next stage of the competition.

Barnieh and Junior Kaaba were guilty of wasting great opportunities in the second half.

The Black Galaxies forward has now gone four competitive games without a goal for Hearts and has managed four in five appearances for the GPL side in all competitions this season.

The 3-1 result means this is the end of the road for the Ghanaian giants in CAF’s inter-club competition this season.
