The Reds opened the CAF Champions League journey in a titanic encounter against the Burkinabé side in Benin.

The game which was played on a neutral ground produced an outstanding and unstoppable display from both sides but the Ghanaian giants ended up with a vital win through Sunyani Neymar.

The Burkina Faso side looked the stronger side early into the game as they pressured the Ghanaians but Seydou Zerbo’s side were on hand to hold off the pressure from the opposition.

Zerbo was taking charge of his first official game as the head coach of Kotoko following the resignation of Prosper Ogum Narteh at the end of last season.

Kotoko started dominating play with delightful passes right from the first whistle of the game but the final production was the problem.

Mukwala, who led the attack in the absence of Cameronian international, Frank Etouga Mbella was expected to delivery, yet the Warriors struggled to make the good use of their chances.

It took the last minute strike from the youngster, Isaac Oppong who has been invited into the Black Meteors to seal a dramatic win for the Warriors.

The win at the General Kerekou Stadium in Benin gives Kotoko the hope of making it into the next stage of the preliminary round.

Asante Kotoko will have to prove a spirited performance in the second league to make it ‘a done deal’ when the meet again.

The second leg will be played at the at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium next weekend.
