As coach Otto Addo leads the Black Stars of Ghana in search of his first victory since taking over as the head coach, former UEFA Champions League winner, and a Ghanaian coach, Ibrahim Tanko has tasked the team to justify themselves in their AFCON 2023 qualifier opener against Madagascar.

After leading the senior national soccer team, the Black Stars of Ghana to qualify for its fourth World Cup appearance following an away goal rule over Nigeria, the Borussia Dortmund deputy manager, Otto will start the AFCON qualifications against the ‘Barea’ men of Madagascar in Cape Coast this evening.

Ghana goes into the game with a poor record. They are without a single win in their last six fixtures, having conceded three defeats with three draws.

Before the World Cup qualifier play-offs, Otto Addo and his technical team handed a call-up to some new faces including AS Roma youngster Felix Afena-Gyan, Denis Odoi, and others to introduce new tactics which seemed to have restored hope of Ghanaians following the performance against the Super Eagles.

Commenting on the upcoming fixture, the former Black Stars skipper urged the team to justify themselves and to rally for their first win since November last year when they picked up a 1-0 victory over South in the last round of the World Cup qualifiers in Group G.

“I hope we will win. It is not easy. We all hope we will win in terms of qualities and there’s no way they can beat us.”

“We have a very good squad but it is the time for them to justify themselves. He can also invite others but definitely, this current squad is good and they need to justify themselves.” Coach Ibrahim Tanko told Accra-based Original 91.9fm.
