The Ghana Football Association’s Communications Director, Henry Asante has given the assurance that the Cape Coast Sports Stadium is in good shape to host the game between Ghana and Madagascar.

The Black will host Madagascar in the first leg of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at exactly 7:00PM.

The venue was not eligible to host the World Cup qualifier play-off first leg between Ghana and Nigeria two months ago after this year’s Independence Day celebration on March 6 which led to a portion of the pitch being damaged.

The Black Stars opened camp on Saturday, May 28, 2022, to begin preparations for the game, having trained on the turf but it will be the first time they will play at the venue since November last year after a 1-0 win over South Africa.

Henry Asante Twum, speaking on behalf of the GFA has assured Ghanaians that the Cape Coast Sports Stadium will be ready for use and it is in good shape for the fixture.

“The pitch is in good shape to host the Ghana Black stars and Madagascar game. The pitch is in a good condition for our AFCON qualifiers.” He told Accra-based Original FM.

He again updated the fraternity with the news from the camp, indicating the team is in high spirit for Wednesday’s assignment.

“The morale in camp is very high and there is great competition in the team as players are serious to get selection on Wednesday game against Madagascar”

“We spoke to the Madagascar team and they will be ready in Cape Coast to have their training at the venue tomorrow afternoon before the press conference.”

After Wednesday’s assignment, the Black Stars will fly for their second group game of the qualifications against Central African Republic in four days later before they jet off to participate in a four nations mini tournament in Japan as part of preparations for the upcoming World Cup.
