After a breathless 120minutes action, the Teranga Lions of Senegal have booked a ticket for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

It was Egypt who came all the way from Cairo with a goal lead after Ciss’ own goal in the first leg.

The most anticipated game was a revenge for the Egyptians after loosing to Senegal at the finals of the recent AFCON.

In today’s fixture, Senegal registered an early goal to cancel out the first leg scoreline.

The goal was scored after the hosts launched an instant attack and earned a foul on the left of Egypt’s penalty area when Ciss is brought down by Ramy Rabia.

Idrissa Gueye then whipped in the subsequent free-kick, which was cleared straight to the feet of Boulaye Dia, who scrambled the ball past Mohammed El Shenawy and into the back of the net.

During the 42nd minute, Senegal almost added a second goal to move themselves ahead on aggregate, with Nampalys Mendy unleashing a fierce shot from the edge of the box just past the post.

Back in the second half, the visitors relaunched their performance and almost draw level as Salah curls in a delightful ball straight to the head of substitute Zizo, whose effort whistles past Mendy’s left post.

After the fascinating 90minutes, the 2021 AFCON champions swerved the Egyptians into an extra time following a 1-1 aggregate scoreline.

The additional 30 minutes ended up without a goal but the Senegal national team brushed-off The Pharaohs of Egypt to pick a slot at the final tournament with a 3-1 scoreline on penalties.

Both teams missed their first two shootout as Salah balloons his kick wide over the post whiles Mohammed of Egypt also squandered his kick to leave the Egyptians off the hook for Mane to snatch a sensational victory at home.

It is the second time Mane has scored a decisive penalty to leave his Liverpool mate Salah in disappointment following the last AFCON finals in Cameroon.

This means one of the Liverpool stars will sit out for the World Cup.
