Despite belaboring Comoros who are yet to make their AFCON debut, the Communication Director for the Malawi Football Association Gomezgani Zakazaka has advised Ghana not to underrate them since they are in the same group.

Malawi picked a 2-1 victory over Comoros recently in an African Cup of Nations test match.

The Communication Director believes the AFCON debutant can pull surprise to the world as Madagascar did in the previous tournament held in Egypt.

The debutant is paired in Group C with Gabon, one-time champions Morocco, and the third most successful winner, Ghana.

Zakazaka in his explanation refers to how Comoros were able to trash big teams and prevailed and also how they were able to hold the ball during their friendly game a few days ago.

“They can surprise, look we have seen teams making their maiden appearance in a competition pulling out surprises, for example, Madagascar in 2019 in Egypt surprised the world in their maiden appearance by going as far the quarter-finals. Who gave them a chance? nobody gave them the chance but they were just ready to show that they are a team from the island and Comoros too are in for a shock.” Says Zakazaka.

“People should not underrate them and they should not pull them out completely, here is their first time to appear in a bigger stage in looking at how they qualified. They beat stronger teams in their qualification and if they could do the same then they can shock the world in the tournament in Cameroon.” He concluded.

Zakazaka’s team Malawi will also face Senegal, Zimbabwe, and Guinea in Group B.
