Veteran and outspoken football coach Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong says Ghana can only end the long AFCON trophy drought if there is unity among the technical team.

The Black Stars look to end over three decades search for the trophy in the next edition of the tournament hosted in Cameroon.

The four-time champions last won Africa’s international showpiece in 1982.

Ghana have since come close to clinching the title on three occasions. Unfortunately, the West African side lost to two of the finals to Ivory Coast and one to Egypt coupled with 6 semifinal finishes.

According to J E Sarpong, it will take only unity among the technical bench transcended to the whole squad to win the AFCON next year.

“The unity should come from the technical bench and the management…if they are able to keep their cards to their chest and then treat everybody on board as a friend, as a brother, and as a Ghanaian we can go places but devoid of all this things I have said we cannot win the trophy” he told Ashh FM

Ghana is drawn in Group C alongside Morocco, Gabon and first timers Comoros.
