Ghana will not have a representative for the 2021-2022 CAF Confederations Cup.

This decision comes after Asante Kotoko and Medeama declined to participate in the tournament, while AshGold failed to acquire a license to compete in CAF competitions this season.

As usual, it should be at least two slots for each country with Hearts of Oak picking the Champions League spot after winning the just ended league but the country needed a club licensed to represent in the continent’s second elite club competition in the next campaign.

AshantiGold SC who were the finalists of the MTN FA Cup can not represent Ghana due to its failure to apply for a license that would have made them eligible to participate.

Management of both Medeama and Asante Kotoko took that decision following a disappointing run in the just ended 2020/21 season and would like to rebuild a strong team before engaging to avoid any disgraceful campaign.

This means Ghana’s only representative in CAF competition will be Premier League champions Hearts of Oak.

The Phobians will know their opponents in the preliminary rounds when a draw is held at CAF’s headquarters in Cairo on Friday.
